PROXY VOTING
The NCPTA has taken a clear position on voting by proxy. Section 16.3 of the NCPTA bylaws form for PTA
units reads as follows…
Proxy Voting. Proxy voting shall not be allowed
in any meeting of NCPTA or its constituent organizations, including
meetings of all committees and commissions.
The National PTA has also taken a clear position on voting
by proxy. The 2009 National PTA Bylaws read as follows…
Article IV. Constituent Organizations
Section 3. There shall be no proxy voting by
any constituent organization of National PTA. (Website:www.pta.org;
Governance section)
Local North Carolina PTAs are chartered and organized under the
authority of the North Carolina PTA as well as the National PTA
organization.
The local unit 501(c)(3) status as a NC non-profit is held under
the authority of these state and national PTAs.
Our local units bylaws and operations must be in conformity with
such rules and regulations as the NCPTA and the national PTA organizations
prescribe.
